My Blue Boy- By Katie Genghini

You're my favorite shade of blue these days
Shades before you blurred in haze
Deep alike the midnight sky
The richest blue has caught my eye

You're my favorite shade of blue today
A laugh like music, in my heart you play
With cucumber eyes and your smile aglow
The oddest of colors begin to flow

At the end of a spectrum, colors fade, they disapear
Yours is different, forever clear

Kat[ie] Gets Crafty! [Dot Com]

Crafty at the Thrift Store, an adventure with Kat =]

Duh, duh, duh. This can get tricky. Cheap duds can be exciting, styling and ultimately profiling. Careful though, enter at your own risk. An overwhelming array of crappy vs. vintage awaits. Separating the two is the tricky part, but getting the hang of it and applying it to your shopping trip...the rewarding part! Hang in there, The Quipster is here to help. With these few, simple tips, you're good to go! Quip Style.

First, let's talk location. Where you at?! Good Will is Good Will, right? Wrong. Enter Good Will in your not so good side of the tracks, and the smell will hit you at the door before the broad selection of unflattering attire. You've got 1990 Mervyn's California blue jeans, Wal-Mart special T's and L.A. Lights sneakers, in unlimited amounts! While that's cool and all, considering it will be helping families in need, as a fashionista, you'll be wasting your precious time. While there's the occasional needle in a haystack item in these places, your time spent finding it won't be worth it. Now, enter Good Will on the other side, and the brands awaiting can be everything from Abercrombie and Fitch to Marc Jacobs. Score! Excitement becomes you, as should patience! Take a deep breathe, you've entered the realm of fashion gets cheap.

So, you're here. Notice I haven't mentioned Buffalo Exchange. While Buffalo is exciting, it's cheating as well. With cheating comes consequence, and the consequence here is over priced second hand clothing. When you master Good Will, you've mastered the fashion world. Rule numero uno, enter with an open mind and no set ideas on what you're looking for. Thrifting is like garage sale shopping, with a roof and a.c. I recommend hitting the shoe rack first, sometimes that's where the real gems are at. Next, hit the jeans! Shoes and jeans are two articles of wear that, well, when you've got those "wow" pairs, you've won! Not to mention, quality jeans and shoes remain an investment, especially when they're second hand treasures =]

I'll finish this Quip with the Platinum rule of  thrifting- It is never okay to incorporate undergarment and sock shopping on your thrift trip. Happy Thrifting, loves!

Kat :]

My Monet Sky- By Katie Genghini

Against skies of blue, lined with silver and gold.
These are The Monet Skies I've been told.
With you came this image, above me it flew.
Wasn't til then, I finally knew.

I've known you sometime, a life before this.
I've loved you forever, eternal bliss.
My sweetest love, all worth it with you.
To My Monet Sky, forever true.

A Beach Bound Journey

I closed my eyes today and found myself on beaches upon beaches of white, powdery sands. These beaches headlining my visual journey seemed endless as they faded to the palest of blue. My floor, or shall I say sand length, ivory linen dress, flowed around me as I walked the shores. The wind's salty breeze kissed my lips. Narrated only by the faint song of a seagull, I made my way down this mind made miracle. Relaxed and renewed, I seemingly glided along where the crisp, cool waters met the warm sands. Light ocean sprays whispered to me softly. Loveliest of all, I stepped aside myself at the end, only to watch as I walked into the forever blue.
...left on the beaches for an eternal stroll.

Today's visual has left me with a strong want. Kat's Road Trip- A Cali Bound Beach Journey
Can't wait!

Kat Learns Something New

...and shares with YOU!

This past Saturday my co-worker and friend, who is a professional make-up artist having done the faces of Channel 13 News for years, and myself, were chatting. As she applied my makeup for the night's festivities, I couldn't help but wonder why she hadn't applied moisturizer and primer before my foundation. Yes, I dedicated a post to primer recently :). Had she forgotten? Primer is a NECESSITY! Kat learns something new. After voicing my concern, she explained to me that primer and moisturizer can create a barrier between your face and the makeup. BING! Foundation and powder ever so disappointingly settling into lines, having to reapply 3 times a day, flash-back! Not applying these two products allows for foundation to, in a way, 'absorb' into skin, giving a more natural/longer lasting finish. Of course, primer and hydration are still at the top of my list as go-to products, BUT! Balance is key, as I always say, and everyone's canvas is different. I was sold while, evening turned to night, and night became morning, my face was still in place. Even after a healthy dose of cocktails. So, give it a go! See if your face responds better to primer or without. Nothing more refreshing than discovering a new way to brighten our face! Live. Learn. Wear. LOVE :]

Katie Loves Cola

Fizzy, fizzy. Ice cold and yummy!
I love Coca-Cola, it's good in my tummy
A healthy addiction, it does me right
Gotta get the soda, morning, noon and night

Skippin' on the cereal, skippin' on the muffin
Who needs breakfast, I'll take a Coke when I'ma rushin'
I like it best in a can, but I take it any other way
I've been counting, I drink seven sodas a day!

Maybe I should stop, get a handle on this habit
Just joking, if I see a Coke, I naturally grab it
Bring it on ice, serve it to me cold
Give me my Cola, as it never gets old!

I love Coca-Cola
